The Leadership and Development Programme (LEAD) is a specialised 5-week course designed specifically for care sector managers and supervisors. Hosted at Bardocs Moorgate Primary Care Centre in Bury, the programme partners with Connected Consultants Ltd to deliver experiential learning that goes beyond traditional training methods.
The programme focuses on practical, real-world leadership development through hands-on learning experiences that participants can immediately apply in their workplace settings.

The opening session, titled "Model the Way," established the foundational elements of effective leadership. Participants explored several critical areas, including understanding the distinction between leadership and management, examining leadership behaviours through the respected Kouzes & Posner model, and increasing self-awareness using Wilson's Quadrant.
One particularly impactful component asked participants to reflect on "what it's like to be on the receiving end of me," encouraging leaders to consider how their actions and decisions affect their teams. The session concluded with participants setting personal challenges and objectives for their leadership journey ahead.
Leadership development in care extends far beyond basic management skills. The sector requires leaders who can inspire teams, navigate complex challenges, and ultimately improve outcomes for the vulnerable people in their care.
This programme specifically targets current managers and supervisors who are committed to excellence, investing in sustainable leadership development that will create lasting impact across care organisations throughout the region. By focusing on self-awareness, reflective practice, and workplace application, LEAD ensures that learning translates into meaningful change.

With one session completed and four remaining, participants will continue their leadership transformation over the coming weeks. Each session builds upon the previous one, creating a comprehensive development experience that equips care leaders with the tools, confidence, and skills they need to excel.
The programme represents a significant commitment from both the participants and their organisations, recognizing that investing in leadership development creates ripple effects throughout entire care teams and, ultimately, benefits the people receiving care.
