What Does a Home Care Worker Do?

Home care jobs, sometimes called domiciliary care, involve supporting people in their own homes, helping them stay independent, comfortable and connected to the community they love.

No two days look the same. You might be helping someone start their morning, joining them on a community trip, or providing more complex support. As Heidi, Operations Manager at I Care Group, puts it: "One day you could be visiting Agnes for breakfast. The next, supporting George who has complex care needs. It's very, very varied work."

    • Supporting morning routines, getting people up, washed, dressed and ready for the day
      • Preparing meals, drinks and assisting with medication safely and correctly
        • Supporting people to get out into the community, a trip to the doctors, supermarket, the hairdressers, a local café or a familiar walk
          • Providing companionship, for some clients, you may be the only person they see that day
            • Travelling short, local routes between visits across Bury, a driving licence is a real advantage

Whatever your background, you belong here

The people doing this job right now came from pubs and restaurants, recruitment, local authority services and everything in between. What matters isn't your CV — it's your character.

I had a big career change before coming into care, I'd managed pubs and restaurants for eight years. But I've always had a passion for care. Two and a half years later, I'm part of the management team. I didn't think that was possible.
